D.s awarded in the sciences fell by 10 percent between 2001 and 2016, according to a new study.
But the U,S.
still ranks fifth in the world in science per capita.
The most recent figures are from 2016.
There were 9.2 million science degrees awarded worldwide in 2017, according the Association for the Advancement of Science, a nonprofit research group.
The U.K. had 1.9 million, France 1.5 million, and the U:2.2.1 million.
