Bob was born in Los Angeles and graduated from UC Santa Cruz in 1988.
He earned his Ph.
D. in physics from the University of California at Berkeley in 1996.
He worked for the Los Angeles Public Library in the late 1990s as a science historian, and has taught at the California Institute of Technology, University of Southern California, and other institutions.
He is the author of Science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), the most comprehensive collection of scientific and engineering history in print.
Bob has been an active and influential member of the science and technology communities for many years.
He has published more than two dozen books on topics in science and engineering.
He serves on the boards of several organizations.
